If you found yourself setting your clocks early today in anticipation of the new Butterfingers album, only to be met with an empty Spotify queue, the band have now explained why that is, revealing a slight postponement in release plans.
Two months ago today, the Australian music world was met with the news that Brisbane’s genre-defying outfit Butterfingers were set to release their first new album since 2006.
Titled Bad News, the album’s announcement was preceded by the release of a new song, ‘Dancing (To The Beat Of My Own Drum)‘, with frontman Evil Eddie noting the whole album is something of a profile of the years since their last record.
“Well, the whole album is one complete story and it’s about where we’ve been and what’s happened in the last 13 years since our last album,” he explained. “It’s not as literal as a regular concept album, but each song represents a scene.
“The story within the album covers everything from self loathing, facing bankruptcy, battling drug addiction, failed friendships/betrayal, heartbreak – and then overcoming all that to make a rad album.”
Sadly, the record’s title became somewhat prophetic, with their forthcoming album tour postponed due to COVID-19. However, with the new record due to be released today, the Bad News keeps on coming, with Eddie revealing there’s been a slight change in plans.
“So, you know how the tour has been postponed?” Eddie asked followers in a video posted to Facebook this morning. “Well, guess what? So has the album. The album is postponed as well.

“I originally said it was coming out today, but it’s not. It’s coming out next Wednesday, not too far. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel because it’s getting mastered today.”
By the sounds of it, this little release-day announcement has seen the record pushed back only slightly, with the new release date ostensibly being Wednesday, April 8th.
However, there is some good news, with Butterfingers having recently shared their latest single, ‘Bad News’, just last week.
Considering we’ve waited since 2006 for a new Butterfingers album, it doesn’t seem too difficult to have to wait another week for the record. So, check out the group’s new single in the meantime, and start learning those words to belt out from the crowd when a run of rescheduled tour dates are announced in the near future.
