The cult of Daft Punk is a weird phenomenon for anyone that doesn’t quite get the appeal.
For those who do, there are trips to country NSW for a listening party (sans-band), action figures, replica helmets, and glee at any glimpse of the duo without said helmets on, such as this underwhelming photo of the duo playing table tennis at the Sony office.
Which is all to say that a Roland TR-909 used by Daft Punk to create their debut record, 1997’s Homework, is likely to raise a pretty penny when it is auctioned off by Vintage and Analogue Occasion. They haven’t set a price; as they explain, “It’s a collector’s item, so it’s impossible to set a price.”
The drum machine belonged to Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, and comes with the presets for ‘Revolution 909’.
Hopefully you raise enough cash to bid and ‘Get Lucky’. That was them, right? Hard to tell with all these French robot duos flooding the music industry of late.
