Carole King spoke with many a camera and microphone at the red carpet for the 2019 American Music Awards on November 24. The theme of the night being the role she had as the artist who would be honouring Taylor Swift with artist of the decade.

King, who was in attendance at the event to present Taylor Swift with the artist of the decade award, told Billboard that she was ecstatic to be honouring Taylor.

“I’m like the grandmother,” she jokes. “I don’t mind if people know my age ’cause I own it, I love it, and I’m just fine. But I love what Taylor’s doing. She is carrying it forward.”

Taylor Swift accepted the Artist of the Decade award from Carole King onstage during the 2019 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on Nov. 24, 2019, in Los Angeles.

In light of Swift’s recent battle with her former label over the rights to her music, King was asked by Billboard to share any words of wisdom for younger artists who might find themselves in similar situations.

“We all sign up with people and some are good and some are not,” King says. “I can’t speak…for her but I’ve done okay, but there have been people along the way who try to take advantage and you have to try not to be in that situation and…you have to try not to ask for too much.”

Watch Carole King praise Taylor Swift’s songwriting in an interview with Access Hollywood.

In recent Taylor Swift news, the awarded artist recently popped by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert for a stunning intimate performance.

“Tiny Desk is like one of my favourite corners of the Internet,” Swift prefaced her performance with. “It’s an opportunity for artists to decide a different way to showcase their music.”

“So you’re kind of inundated by overwhelming opportunity and choices. I just decided to kind of take this as an opportunity to show you guys how the songs sounded when I first wrote them. ‘So it’s just me.’”

Swift made her way through Lover tracks ‘The Man’, ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’, and ‘Lover’. She also treated us devoted Swifties to beloved Red deep cut, ‘All Too Well’. You can watch the performance here.
