Céline Dion seems like the last person to get caught up in some sort of religious scandal, but a US priest has accused the singer of promoting satanism with her new clothing line.

Earlier this month, Canadian singer Céline Dion released her own gender-neutral clothing line for children. Partnering with clothing brand NUNUNU, the CELINUNUNU line aims to be accessible for any child thanks to its large range of “stereotype-free styles”

However, this decision isn’t sitting right with US priest Msgr. John Esseff, who claims that such a move is “demonic”.

Speaking to the National Catholic Register, Msgr. Esseff – who has been a priest for 65 years and an exorcist for over 40 – called the clothing line “satanic”, and wholeheartedly dismissed the idea of gender-neutrality.

“I’m convinced that the way this gender thing has spread is demonic,” he explained. “It’s false. I don’t even know how many genders there’s supposed to be now, but there are only two that God made.”

“The devil is going after children by confusing gender. When a child is born, what is the first things we say about that child? It’s a boy, or it’s a girl. That is the most natural thing in the world to say. But to say that there is no difference is satanic.”

“People behind this are influencing children to disorder,” Msgr. Esseff continued. “This is definitely satanic. There is a mind behind it—an organized mindset.”

“The devil is a liar and there are huge lies being told. This is being done for money, and there is divisiveness that comes from this—marks of the devil.”

“The evil one feels that he can do these things without somehow being recognized behind it all. This [gender neutrality] is a ploy he has. It is being driven by an agenda because there is a spirit behind it.”

Of course, Céline Dion – who herself was raised as a Roman Catholic – has not responded to these outlandish claims of satanism, but explained that her CELINUNUNU line hopes to “encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility.”

“CELINUNUNU lets children choose outside stereotypes and norms so they can bring from within their own tastes and preferences,” Dion noted in a recent press release. “We help them feel free, creative, inspired, respectful of one another and happy in the world.”

We don’t aim to present ourselves as experts on the topic of religion, but surely promoting ideals of quality, freedom, and respect is one of the least satanic things you can do, right?
