In related news, it’s looking like we won’t be getting a new System of a Down album anytime soon. Guitarist Daron Malakian offered an update on the group’s new record, sharing that “it’s not likely that it’s gonna happen anytime soon.”

Malakian, alongside drummer John Dolmayan have previously explained that there is “one member” holding the band back from releasing new music. It has since been revealed that the cause of the delay is frontman Serj Tankian.

Tankian has acknowledged that he was the reason for the band’s hiatus, and didn’t want to be involved in their last two albums.

“It is true that I and only I was responsible for the hiatus SOAD took in 2006,” Tankian revealed. “Everyone else wanted to continue at the same pace to tour and make records.”

Not all hope is lost though, Malakian has assured fans that he has material that System of a Down could use if they were to make another record. “If System decides to make a record at some point, I think I’ll have material for that. The thing is, I’m just not waiting anymore to see what’s going on.”
