The new Slipknot album is shaping up to be a deadset banger, with Corey Taylor revealing that the lyrics on the record are some of the “darkest” he has written “in a long time”.
Slipknot are currently gearing up to release their first album in five years next month, with We Are Not Your Kind scheduled to arrive on August 9th.
While frontman Corey Taylor has discussed the record’s content in the past, he previously explained that musically, it contains “heavier things than we’ve ever done.”
“As a whole — and I can say this honestly — it is probably the furthest we’ve pushed the boundaries of creativity and experimentation, while also not losing our identity,” Taylor explained in a recent interview.
Now, he’s opened up about the lyrics on the new record, explaining he’s delved deep for the new album, showcasing some of his “darkest” lyrics in years.

Speaking to Rockman at Festival d’été de Québec in Canada recently, Taylor discussed the new record and what exactly went into it’s creation.
“It’s heavy, it’s experimental, it’s melodic as hell,” Taylor began. “Lyrically, it’s the darkest that I’ve gone in a long time.
“I went through a really dark period, and it fuelled all of my lyrics for this album, all of my emotions for this album. Just shirking the chains of that depression, negativity, trying to get rid of that.
“And the vibe is so dark. People aren’t gonna… they’re not gonna know what to expect with it. It’s pretty crazy.”
Whatever the case, fans will get the chance to hear this new record in just under a month, with We Are Not Your Kind set to arrive on August 9th.
While Slipknot fans are undoubtedly eagerly awaiting the new record, followers of the nine will get a chance to catch them live later this year when they head to Australia as the support act on Metallica’s long-awaited WorldWired tour.
