Two music legends have teamed up to cover another, with Courtney Barnett recruiting Paul Kelly to take on an Archie Roach classic for MTV Unplugged Melbourne.
Late last month, the great Courtney Barnett descended upon the Melbourne venue of Howler to take part in the latest edition of MTV Unplugged Melbourne.
While lucky fans packed the confines of the tiny Brunswick location, it seems as though it wasn’t just admirers who were filled the venue, but musical celebrities as well, with Courtney teaming up with the likes of Marlon Williams and Evelyn Ida Morris for a nine-song set of stripped back tunes.
Most excitingly though, the set also featured another rendition of ‘Charcoal Lane’ with Paul Kelly, covering the Archie Roach song from the 1990 album of the same name.
With the original version being produced by Kelly close to 30 years ago, the pair joined forces back in 2015 to cover the song as well, paying tribute to one of the great Aussie songwriters with a mesmerising and emotional cover version.
Courtney Barnett’s MTV Unplugged Melbourne set is on track to air at 6:30pm on MTV this Sunday, November 17th.
