It’s hardly been two months since the release of the latest record from Gorillaz, but frontman Damon Albarn is already thinking about the group’s next album.

In April of 2017, Gorillaz released Humanz, their first record since 2011. In the months following the record’s release, Jamie Hewlett hinted that they were keen to get back to the studio and record a new album rather quickly to avoid falling into another period of inactivity.

Then, in May of this year, the band announced their new record, The Now Now, which was released at the end of June. However, it seems as though this prolific period might not be over quite yet for the group, with Damon Albarn hinting at more to come.

Speaking to the Radio FM4 podcast (via Stereogum), Damon Albarn noted that he’s got plans for a new record, though his busy schedule might mean we’ll be waiting a while.

“I have another one as well, but I know I’m not gonna be allowed to even think about recording or putting it out this year,” Alabarn explained. “In October, after I play in America, I’ll be starting The Good, The Bad & The Queen again… it’s there.”

“If I get the time, or if anyone wants it, it’s there.”

This seems to be in line with Damon Albarn’s recent comments where he revealed that his The Good, The Bad & The Queen supergroup will finally be released a follow-up to their 2007 debut.

“I’ve been recording the Good, The Bad & The Queen album,” Damon Albarn told Zane Lowe in an interview last year. “I’ve been working with Tony Visconti. He’s responsible for some of my favourite records, so that’s been really enlightening and inspirational.”

I’m on tour in Europe doing festivals, but I’m coming home in between them [to finish the record],” Albarn explained in another interview just last month. “I’m working all weekend doing festivals and then come home Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday – that’s should be your weekend. But because I’ve stupidly started and want to make this record right, I don’t have any weekends.”

While Damon Albarn is definitely a busy boy, don’t go holding your breath for that new Gorillaz record just yet, as it looks like we might be waiting quite a while still. But at the moment, let’s just be thankful we’re living in one of the group’s most prolific periods to date.
