Danny Boyle has unveiled the trailer for his newest film, which depicts a world in which The Beatles never existed.
Have you ever found yourself listening to your favourite music and imagining what your life would be like if you had written those songs? It’s a common topic of daydreams amongst musicians, but have you ever stopped to wonder what life would really be like?
Well, director Danny Boyle has attempted to answer that question with his newest film, Yesterday.
Penned by veteran screenwriter Richard Curtus, the film follows Himesh Patel as Jack Malik, a struggling musician, who finds himself in a world where The Beatles never existed.
After playing through ‘Yesterday’ and realising that no one knows the tune, Jack soon begins to carve out his own music career, using the songs written by his idols.
Starring Lily James, Ed Sheeran, and even featuring a few cameos from the likes of James Corden, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, Yesterday is shaping up to be a rather intriguing little musical film.
Describing his role in the film last year, Ed Sheeran explained that he was set to play the role of himself, though that has since been changed to that of E.J., a friend of Jack’s.

“I discover [Jack] and take him on tour,” Sheeran explained. “Then he gets much, much bigger than me through doing stuff. Yeah, it’s very clever.”
They shot it around loads of my gigs. So it was a very intense two months. Because I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film,” he continued. “I was playing myself, so I don’t think I was that bad. There wasn’t much to (mess) up.”
Yesterday is set to hit the theatres in June of this year. Check out the first official trailer below!
