Dave Grohl is the nice guy of rock n’ roll. But that doesn’t mean he’s a push over.
In a recent interview with The Red Bulletin he talks openly about something he sees as an intentional mistake, describing the whole affair as ‘not cool’. It all started when Michael Jackson died over two years ago he left a myriad of unfinished recordings. Record executives saw a goldmine in front of them and commissioned a group of producers and other musicians to finish the works which got released last year as the posthumous album Michael.
Well if you read the sleeve carefully you’d have seen that one of the tracks (I Can’t Make It) Another Day, is credited to Lenny Kravitz and Dave Grohl. But the former Nirvana drummer and now leader of the Foo Fighters insists his work does not appear in any of the tracks.
Grohl told The Red Bulletin “That was messed up actually. Lenny Kravitz – who I only met once – called and asked if I want to play drums on a track. I said, ‘Sure’, played drums on it and I never heard from them again. On the sleeve notes it says ‘Michael Jackson featuring Lenny Kravtiz and Dave Grohl’ but they didn’t use any of my recordings. Dude, that’s not cool.”
But that doesn’t mean Grohl wouldn’t have contributed if he had been asked. He told the magazine his criterion for taking on side-projects to his stadium filling band. “It has to be something that I have never done before,” he said. “Whether it’s playing with someone I’ve never played with before, or a new band, or playing a type of music I’ve never played before. It just has to be a worthwhile project.”
