California alt-metal outfit Deftones reveal their new album is set to release this year, and that decorated producer Terry Date is taking control.
With anticipation mounting for new Deftones music, we finally have knowledge that the new album is currently in the stages of being mixed, and will be released in the latter half of this year.
The iconic band is already set as a headliner to this years Download Festival lineup, as well as taking a trek around the country on their own tour. As fans have been wondering for four years when a new album would materialise, the news of the album being in the mixing phase has left the fanbase ecstatic.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer, as drummer Abe Cunningham hinted the release details and the process to Mixdown.
“We did things a little bit differently this time. We stretched everything out over the course of a couple of years, rather than blasting through in one go,” Cunningham stated.
“The process has been mixed with about a year-long break, that we all agreed upon. Being rested and taking that time off really made us appreciate what we’re doing even more. When we’re all laughing and smiling and coming up with stuff together, just like when we were 17… it’s a beautiful thing.”
On top of this great news that the new album is in it’s finishing stages, Deftones took to Instagram to reveal just who they’ve been working with to produce this new album – long-time producer Terry Date.

Seen working alongside frontman Chino Moreno is Date in the photo captioned, “5.25.2019 Los Angeles, CA”.
Date is the producer who previously worked on two of the Deftones albums: Around The Fur (1997) and White Pony (2000).
The famed producer also has many more successful bands under his belt such as Slipknot, Slayer, Soundgarden, and Limp Bizkit.
While the records exact release date is still unknown, hopefully we can catch some of the new songs live when Deftones are in Australia for Download Festival as well as their national headlining tour.
