Dinosaur Jr. Australia and New Zealand Tour 2027

Alt-rock legends Dinosaur Jr. are set to make their return to Australia and New Zealand, locking in six shows for January 2027.

J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph will launch the tour in Auckland on January 16th before making their way across Australia, with stops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

The tour marks the band’s first visit to the region since 2024, when they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1993 album Where You Been.

This time, they’ll arrive with new material in tow, following the August release of their 13th studio album, There Near.

Released through Jagjaguwar, the record is Dinosaur Jr.’s first full-length offering in five years, following 2021’s Sweep It Into Space, and their sixth album since the band’s classic lineup reunited in 2005.

Recorded in short, intensive sessions over the course of a year at Bisquiteen Studio in Amherst, Massachusetts, There Near finds the trio doing what they do best: bringing together Mascis’ unmistakable guitar work and laid-back vocals, Barlow’s melodic instincts, and Murph’s powerful drumming.

The album also features contributions from keyboardist Ken Mauri, with tracks including “Several Got Away” and “Blowin’ Up” adding to a catalogue that has helped shape alternative rock for more than four decades.

Since emerging from Massachusetts in the mid-1980s, Dinosaur Jr. have become one of the genre’s most influential acts, helping bridge the gap between American underground rock and the alternative explosion of the 1990s.

Their upcoming shows are expected to draw from across that history, with fan favourites including “Freak Scene”, “Feel the Pain”, “Out There”, “Watch the Corners”, and their cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” among the band’s enduring live staples.
