Elton John has teamed up with young US singer Khalid for a cover of his 2017 hit ‘Young Dumb & Broke’.

Back in early 2017, a then-18-year-old Khalid released his huge single ‘Young Dumb & Broke’. Charting the world over, the track even managed to hit #13 on triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2017, and kickstarted the young muso on a road to international superstardom.

Now, he’s teamed up with musical icon Elton John, who has performed a cover of the amazing tune.

Recorded live at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Spotify Singles series, the cover sees Elton John turning the track into a downtempo ballad, and features some harmonies from Khalid on the track as well. It’s also paired with a rendition of Elton’s 1973 classic, ‘Bennie And The Jets’.

“I discovered Khalid’s music a few years ago and have been a fan ever since,” Elton John explained of their collaboration. “We finally met when I played his home town of El Paso last year.”

“It’s a thrill to be a small part of any new artists’ journey, and it’s been wonderful to see his star continue to rise and rise. ‘Young Dumb & Broke’ is a fabulous song, one of my favorites, and I’m really pleased that he liked my cover enough to contribute vocals.”

In related news, Elton John revealed earlier this year that he’s set to stop wide-scale touring in the future, announcing a marathon three-year farewell tour in the process.

“It will be the last time that I’m touring and travelling the world, because my priorities have changed. My priorities now are my children and my husband and my family.”

“I will be creative, hopefully, until the day I die,” he continued. “I have had a good run … I want to go out with a bang.”

While there’s no definitive Aussie tour dates yet, promoters have revealed that the Rocket Man himself is set to visit around December of 2019 and January of 2020. Now we just have to sit and wait for that final chance to see him play live.
