Ah, it’s always the ones who are the most vocally homophobic that come out. Well, almost. Although Eminem has been attacked for his apparent homophobic lyrics in the past, he’s come out in support of gay marriage – in a somewhat backhanded fashion. In an interview published yesterday in the New York Times magazine, he says “I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.”
Courting controversy with his Slim Shady LP with it’s ‘I hate fags’ lyrics in 2000, Marshall Mathers then kissed Elton John at the 2001 Grammy Awards. It seems the best way to get in the headlines now that he’s got a new LP to promote is to become tolerant. “I think I’ve calmed down a bit,” he says. “My overall look on things is a lot more mature than it used to be.”
