Eminem is hosting an online listening party of The Marshall Mathers LP to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic album’s release. The listening party will take place on May 27th. Eminem is yet to confirm the time at which it will begin.

Eminem, real name Marshall Bruce Mathers, unveiled the listening party on social media earlier today. In a post on Twitter, Eminem referenced the textline which fans can message to receive more information about the listening party.

“Listening Party and I got a new number Telephone – hit the site for more info on the 20th Anniversary of The Marshall Mathers LP,” the rapper wrote on Twitter.

According to Eminem’s website, those attending will be able to join a live chat and ask the rapper questions.

Mathers has also released a limited edition ‘MMLP20 Stan Varsity Hoodie’ to celebrate the album’s milestone anniversary.

Released on May 23rd, 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP spawned hit singles ‘Stan’, ‘The Real Slim Shady’ and ‘The Way I Am’. Eminem produced The Marshall Mathers LP alongside Dr. Dre, F.B.T., Mel-Man and The 45 King. It followed on from Eminem’s major-label debut, 1999’s The Slim Shady LP

The Marshall Mathers LP received generally favourable reviews on its release. Retrospectively, critics have deemed it one of the most influential albums of the century.

On the record, Mathers cemented the co-existence of his alter-egos Eminem and Slim Shady. However, it was his identity as Marshall Mathers that often struck a chord with listeners. In the often-cited 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, Miles Keylock notes that “it is as his real self, Marshall Mathers, that Eminem really ruptures nerves, taking hip hop to new emotional territory in semi-autobiographical rants.”

Eminem’s prolific output of music has not slowed down in recent years. Eminem released Music To Be Murdered By, his eleventh studio album, earlier this year.
