Fancy Face are the new kids on Melbourne’s scene. The band have just released their debut single ‘Slip Up’ and it’s a real humdinger. A joyous slice of ebullient indie-rock excellence. We loved ‘Slip Up’ so much that we just had to send Fancy Face a few burning Get To Know questions. So chuck on the track below and read what they had to say.

How did your artist name come about?

It was actually a line off the movie – Crazy, Stupid, Love. From memory, Ryan Gosling refers to some lady in a bar as “fancy face “which I found funny. A few weeks later, at work, some older guy was trying to get my attention from across the room and yelled out “oi you…. fancy boy”. I guess I just rolled with it.

How would you describe your music to your grandma?

I love this question! My grandma and I were actually super close and only just recently, in January, she passed away at 97. She was the most amazing women. She’s was a huge Elvis fan. So I would have probably tried to convince her we sounded like Elvis.

Tell us about a few tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

‘Slip Up’ is our debut single! It’s a raunchy little number. It started off as a fictional story then progressed into something directly relatable to myself. It’s a tale of temptation…. eventually we are gonna give in!

We’ve got a song called ‘Are You With Us’, which is quickly becoming a band favourite. It’s a story about someone who gave their all for a group of people and in return this group of people really benefited from this person. Slowly things fell apart and sure enough, it all ended badly.
