Following on from the good news of the Tim Rogers-hosted Studio At The Memo hitting Australian TV screens this month, Network Ten have announced the debut of a new weekly programme called This Week Live, a comedy-based variety hosted by Australian funnyman Tommy Little that will feature live music performances. Fellow comics Dave Thornton, Meshel Laurie, and Tom Gleeson have also been ear-marked as regulars the show while producers begin the search for musical guests to reportedly perform acoustic ‘unplugged’ sets during the show’s closing spot. Filming has been pencilled to begin at Ten’s Melbourne studios on Wednesday 24th July and is helmed by producer Craig Campbell, whose credits include the popular prime time series Rove Live, which regularly hosted live music performances. As discussed in Tone Deaf’s opinion piece, any and all live music performance opportunities on Aussie TV are always welcome. (via TheMusic)

Fraser A Gorman Awarded First Ever Mushroom Music Publishing Recording Grant

Mushroom have announced the launch of a new annual recording grant worth $10,000 “to be awarded to one Mushroom published writer,” naming Melbourne singer-songwriter Fraser A. Gorman as the first artist to be awarded the financial career boost. “Our writers have always been Mushroom’s strength and we understand how important it is for them to continue making recordings of their original material,” reads a statement about the new MMP grant. “Coming from an independent background, we have a lot of respect for the “do it yourself” approach and acknowledge that many of our writers have completed and released high standard recordings away from the traditional recording studio set up.” After earning his stripes gigging around Torquay and Geelong from the age of 15, Fraser A. Gorman released his self-titled EP last year and will benefit greatly from the $10,000 grant as he works towards recording his debut album. Along with his band Big Harvest, Gorman has played festivals including Meredith, Falls, Boogie, Port Fairy and Queenscliff Music Festivals. Fraser A Gorman & Big Harvest will play to sold-out audiences nationwide in support of Vance Joy this August and September.
