One of the most pressing issues facing the music industry at the moment is the representation of women. Not just on stage and on the radio, but on festival lineups and behind the scenes.

Inevitably, whenever the discussion about gender parity on festival lineups gets started, it descends into a bubbling vat of vitriol and commenters suggesting festival bookers just book the best acts.

Apparently, many music fans believe that there simply aren’t enough female acts who could prove a draw to the ticket-buying public and that festivalgoers clearly aren’t all that interested in seeing female-led acts.

Well, the Curtin University Student Guild have news for you. They’ve organised the Athena Music Festival, Australia’s first and biggest female-led music festival and the lineup is killer.

The eclectic bill features the likes of Abbe May, Asta, Tired Lion, Peking Duk collaborator Nicole Millar, Unearthed High winners Mosquito Coast, Bad Ezzy, and more.

The all ages event kicks off Friday, 11th March and will also feature food trucks, live art, and other activities, all for a very reasonable $35 + BF for general admission.

Best of all, $1 from every ticket sale goes to the Patricia Giles Centre, a charity offering safe crisis accommodation and counselling for women and children affected by domestic violence.
