Situated in the picturesque surrounds of the Port Macqaurie seaside and entering its ninth year, Festival Of The Sun has quietly carved a name for itself as one of the best-kept secrets on the Aussie music festival calendar.

With its boutique 3,000 capacity at an intimate, single stage, and the ever-desirable BYO policy, FOTSUN – the awesome acronym it colloquially goes by – is gearing up for another successful run this December, and given where the dates fall for the two-day weekend, organisers have hit upon a special theme for the fsetival’s 2013 edition.

A post on the official FOTSUN website announcing that the 2013 dates fall on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of December reads:

This year you can expect the same cruisy FOTSUN vibe as you have experienced every other year. However… the festival dates say it all.
We are theming this year’s FOTSUN “The Black Friday Edition” and yes we will be encouraging you all to dress up Day of the Dead, fiesta style. You can keep it simple, go all out or not dress up at all. But, there will be prizes at the festival for best dressed. Stay tuned…

Festival Director Scott Mesiti, speaking to TheMusicsays of The Black Friday Edition, “when we found out that this year’s FOTSUN was to fall on the notorious Friday 13th, we knew immediately what we had to do. We will deliver the FOTSUN that you know and love, but with the added bonus of the Black Friday theme, this year’s FOTSUN is going to be a totally unique experience.”

Last year, FOTSUN brought a strong lineup of musical talent to Port Macquarie’s Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park, including inimitable headliner Kimbra, then flush from the stateside success of her debut album Vows – her ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ Grammy-winning success still to come.

Alongside the neo-soul pop maverick, FOTSUN 2012 featured another future award winner, funk-hop duo Hermitude, who claimed the Australian Music Prize last year for their album HyperParadise. Last year’s lineup was rounded out by Dead Letter Circus, The Datsuns, Busby Marou, Jackson Firebird, DZ Deathrays, Husky, and more.

Though the 2013 bill is yet to be revealed, given festival organisers’ prescient ability to big emerging bands before they hit the wider public consciousness, its bound to be a thrilling list of names, if nothing else, the FOTSUN team should aim for artists that are going to take the Black Friday Theme to heart, and maybe partake in a little dress-up themselves?

Tickets, along with various on-site cabin accommodation/ticket packages available in conjunction with Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park, are already available from FOTSUN.com, with the first round announcement to drop very soon.
