The first Splendour Of The Grass 2014 sideshows has been leaked by one of the three-day music festival’s 86-strong lineup.
Ahead of tickets for the biggest event on Byron Bay’s winter music calendar going on sale tomorrow morning, American singer/model/actress Sky Ferreira has confirmed that she’ll be playing two additional headline shows to complement her place on the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup.
Ahead of her Saturday slot at the festival (which we pegged as one of 17 you simply don’t want to miss), the 21-year-old performer will make her Melbourne live debut and give her second-ever Sydney appearance in Sydney, as Ferreira herself shared her upcoming tour itinerary on her Instagram account.
The photo simply shows dates in Melbourne, Sydney, and Byron Bay among performances in Spain, America, and Japan, with the singer noting “this isn’t the final tour schedule”, but as Project U (via Triple J) reports, she doubly shared her dates to a Facebook app called BandsInTown which revealed her exact dates and locations; performing at Melbourne’s Prince and Sydney’s The Metro in the week leading up to Splendour (details below).
Sky Ferreira made her Australian live debut at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory in March, in a show presented by Splendour organisers Secret Sounds that turned out to be a warm-up run for her festival appearance and sideshows.
With a string of feature singles, including ‘You’re Not The One’ and ‘Everything Is Embarrassing’ (co-written with Dev ‘Blood Orange’ Hynes), carving the way to Sky Ferriera’s debut album Night Time, My Time last October, the 21-year-old has drawn as much attention for her personal life as her musical exploits.
She took a public online stand in March against detractors directing misogynistic and hateful comments her way (over incidents like getting arrested along with her boyfriend, DIIV frontman Zach Smith, last September). “I’m not a mess, I’m not a drug addict, I’m not a slut or a bitch,” she wrote in her impassioned stand against the online trolls.
Sky Ferreira is set to be one of the underrated highlights of the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup, which features exclusive Australian performances from the likes of Outkast, Two Door Cinema Club, Interpol, Darkside, Chvrches, Danny Brown, Buraka Som Sistema, and Parquet Courts.
