It looks like Flume is well and truly back, releasing new single ‘Friends’ just days after his first mixtape.
It’s hard to believe that just a week ago, fans were wondering when Flume would be making his big return.
Having promised late last year that he would “be back in your life” in 2019, Flume made good on this announcement by revealing his first mixtape.
Titled Hi This Is Flume, the mixtape was his first release in two years, and featured contributions from the likes of Kučka, SOPHIE, and JPEGMAFIA.
But of course, like any huge release, fans undoubtedly expected that we’d be waiting quite a while for Flume’s next piece of music, right? Well, thankfully, we were way off on that one…
Dropping earlier today on triple j, Flume unleashed ‘Friends’, his first new single since 2017’s ‘Hyperreal’.
Featuring vocals from rapper Reo Cragun, Flume described the 25-year-old as “one to watch this year”, having teamed up in the US back in 2017.
“For about two weeks we just did sessions all the time and wrote so much music, started all these ideas and then started finishing them off,” Flume explained to triple j.
“We’ve actually done a bunch of tracks together but this one, we’re just really happy with how it turned out.”
While the Aussie producer is remaining a little tight-lipped as to when we might be receiving more singles or, dare we say, an album, he did reveal that there’s plenty to come, including a collaboration with Tove Lo as well.
“There’s a lot of stuff on the way, I’m just keeping busy, writing lots of music,” Flume revealed. “I feel like I had a big break and I don’t want to do that again, I want to be more consistent and put more music out.”
