Well, this is unexpected, but very damn cool.

Having torn the covers off their next record this morning, the Foo Fighters have gone one better and revealed that they’ve been working on their own music festival behind the scenes: Cal Jam ’17.

Even better, the lineup is legitimately great, with their mates Queens of the Stone Age joining the fray, alongside former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, Cage The Elephant, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice, The Kills, Japandroids, Bob Mould and plenty more.

As the name suggests, the fest will be jamming its way into California’s San Bernadino, and is held “in the spirit of the original California Jam”, a 1974 fest that had a similarly huge co-headline pairing of Deep Purple and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Set for October, the one-day event will even pack its own Foo-themed rock museum, fairground rides, a water park, and even a mobile recording studio for anyone who gets a sudden creative urge in the moshpit. While it’s just a one-dayer, you can camp the night beforehand as well, which beats getting up early.

We don’t expect this one to be plotting a global expansion any time soon (it’s all in the name, really), so Aussies might have to content ourselves with the new record instead.
