Influential hardcore band Fugazi have opened up about the possibility of a reunion. The seminal D.C. outfit played their last show 16 years ago. Whilst the band never officially called it quits, a sixteen-year hiatus doesn’t inspire much hope in any of us.However, all hope is not lost. In a recent interview with Louder, Fugazi’s former bassist Joe Lally has addressed the possibility of a reunion.

“You never want to say never about anything,” shared Lally. “Because how can you say that about the future? But there does seem to be a lack of time to allow it to happen, because the four of us would have to spend a lot of time together to figure out, ‘Should we play old songs?’ ‘Who are we now?’ ‘What is it now?’”

“If we got back together, it would have to be from the spirit of creativity,” added drummer Brendan Canty. “You can’t put an inherently creative group back together and then not have the creative element. It would be different if we got back together.”

Canty and Lally currently play together in instrumental-rock outfit The Messthetics. The Messthetics released their debut self-titled record last year. You can listen to a cut from it below.

Back in November, Fugazi members Ian MacKaye and Joe Lally debuted their as-yet-untitled band. The band also features MacKaye’s wife Amy Farina of The Evens. The band made their debut at a food bank benefit concert in Washington, DC.
