Gang of Youths fans are so eager to hear the band’s new single that they’re dialing a phone number to hear just a snippet.

Earlier today, the band posted a mysterious billboard, presumably in London, on their Instagram Story. Against a blue backdrop was just the band’s name and a U.K. phone number – +447412144485.

Fans were unsurprisingly quick to pounce on the latest cryptic hint. Deepest Sighs, an unofficial Gang of Youths fan site, shared a screenshot from the Instagram story on Facebook: “If you want to hear the first 30 seconds of “The Angel of 8th Ave.”, call this UK number that’s showing up on billboards in London. (Screenshot from the band’s IG story!)”

And they showed that it was real in the comments, posting a video of someone phoning the number and hearing the 30 second clip. The sound is a bit muffle (“It sounds terrible because it’s an international call being recorded from an iPhone’s speaker into an iPad’s microphone,” they assured one complaining fan) but it sounds like a Gang of Youths song alright.

The band’s fans were excited but noted just how much Gang of Youths are teasing this new release. “Telstra bill about to skyrocket,” said one; “They’re really making us work for it hey,” said another.

It comes after Gang of Youths posted a video to TikTok on Thursday, June 3rd. Lasting just 13 seconds, it ended with a title card displaying ‘The Angel Of 8Th Ave’. A website also appeared promoting the teaser.

Given that it’s been four years since the band’s last album, the excellent Go Farther in Lightness, a new release has been long overdue.

Are they going to release ‘The Angel Of 8Th Ave’ in instalments? A 30 second part each week? Gang of Youths have always been big teases but that might be taking it a bit too far.
