Gang of Youths have teased fans about the possibility of new music being on the way with a mysterious video posted on TikTok.

It’s been a hot minute since the indie rock band’s mammoth chart-topping 2017 album Go Farther in Lightness but, after murmurs and whispers about a new release coming frequently over the past year and a half, Gang of Youths have now dropped the biggest hint yet.

On Thursday, June 3rd, they uploaded a cryptic video to their TikTok account, lasting just 13 seconds. Drenched in atmospheric blue light, a young man faces up to a punching bag. A sombre piano plays in the background as the video fades to reveal a title card with the following: ‘The Angel Of 8Th Ave’.

Details are scarce right now, naturally, but that hasn’t stopped fans getting excited. Is it a new single? Is it the name of a forthcoming album? Our money is on the latter.

It comes after the Sydney outfit wiped all their previously uploaded content from their social media last week, slightly causing concern for fans who perhaps feared the worst at first. Then they updated their profile images on platforms with the same shot of a punching bag.

A website then appeared to promote the teaser. The website encourages visitors to sign up to a mailing list which is another promising sign of things to come.

The band’s lengthy gap between albums makes little sense considering how acclaimed Go Farther in Lightness was: after debuting in the top spot in the ARIA album charts, it went on to be nominated for eight ARIA music awards, winning four, including Album Of The Year.
