Gang Of Youths’ upcoming tour of North America has been cancelled due to a “family matter” for frontman Dave Le’aupepe.

Gang Of Youths have spent quite a bit of this year touring all around the world, sharing their Go Farther In Lightness album with their legions of dedicated fans. However, all this international touring hasn’t been without trouble.

In fact, following a brilliant start which saw the group making their US television debutDelta Airways  allegedly broke Dave Le’aupepe’s guitar while in transit, before the band had their tour van broken into, and their gear stolen. This bad news was only compounded after Gang Of Youth were forced to postpone a number of their US tour dates due to issues with Le’aupepe’s voice. Needless to say, they’re pretty sick of bad luck by this point.

However, following on from their triumphant homecoming which featured appearances at Splendour In The Grass and the first episode of MTV Unplugged Australia, the band have been forced to break the news to their fans that they’ll be cancelling their upcoming tour dates.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, the group shared a message to their North American fans. “We are truly heartbroken to tell you that we will be missing our upcoming shows in August in America,” they began.

“Unfortunately, David has had a family matter arise and we want to give him our full support during this time,” they continued. “We hope to see you all later in the year and thank everyone for their love, support and understanding during this time.”

The group’s North American tour was set to kick off on Thursday, and would have seen the group performing a brief run of gigs, including an appearance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza and the Osheaga music festival in Canada.

While the band’s Australian tour, which kicks off in October, is said not to be affected, it also seems like the group’s next North American tour – which includes a spot on the Foo Fighters’ Cal Jam festival in early October – will also not be affected by these cancellations.

Regardless, we wish both Dave Le’aupepe and the rest of the band all the best at the current time.
