Veteran actor Gary Busey is set to return to the world of music soon, announcing plans to release a pair of new singles.

Most film fans would undoubtedly be aware of Gary Busey and his iconic acting skills. However, long before he was starring in films like Point BreakLethal Weapon, or The Firm, Busey burst into the mainstream by portraying a rather famous muso.

Back in 1978, Gary Busey starred as the title character in The Buddy Holly Story. Showcasing his musical abilities along with his brilliant acting, Busey received a Golden Globe nomination, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

“I sang all the songs and we did everything in one take,” Busey explained of his role. “It was like a blessing from Buddy himself because I realized two months after I had done the movie that I was channelling his spirit.”

However, in the years since, he’s sort of put music on the back-burner. Having kicked off his career as a drummer back in the ’60s, performing as for Mary and Leon Russell under the name of Teddy Jack Eddy, music hasn’t exactly been his number-one priority in the years since. While he’s made a few live musical appearances from time to time, this is set to be Busey’s first recorded release in quite some time.

As Stereogum notes, Gary Busey is gearing up to release a two-song pack later this year to mark the 40th anniversary of his breakout role.

Consisting of the Buddy Holly track ‘Not Fade Away’, Busey is also set to release an original track titled ‘All The Way’. Featuring Teddy Jack, the son of Mary and Leon Russell (and Busey’s godson), on production and instrumental duties, the tracks are set to be released on November 7th as part of a limited-edition vinyl single.

If you’re keen on being the first kid on your block to boast ownership of a limited-edition Gary Busey single, pre-orders are available now on PledgeMusic. There are also a number of other interesting things on offer as well, including a Gary Busey hat, enamel pin, or a voicemail message from the man himself.
