‘No Strings Attached’ is the brand new track from rising R&B star Caylene, but it also doubles as a life motto. It’s the rules to live by for everyone who catches feels too fast, and although it vibes along with bravado, it also packs an emotional punch on every listen. We sat down with Caylene to get to know her a bit better, and talk about mukbangs, “feeling” music and the plans that this singer and songwriter has for the future.

Cool, calm, collected and full of feels is the best way to describe rising R’n’B singer-songwriter Caylene.

Growing up in Cronulla, Caylene makes music way beyond her years, channelling the vibes of artists with many years in the business under their belt, such as Tinashe, Doja Cat and Justine Skye. It’s a sound she describes herself as “feeling” music, and five seconds into ‘No Strings Attached’, you can hear exactly what she means.

No Strings deals with the desires to move something casual into something more serious. It flirts with the forbidden ideas of wanting more from a situation in which emotions are forbidden, and does so with such slick production that you begin to forget that this is Caylene’s first single ever released.

We sat down with Caylene to discuss her phenomenal new track, and got to know more about her and her love for ‘Dance A$$’ on karaoke, which we agree with 100%.

How did your artist name come about?

“I’ve played around with stage names and different nicknames and stuff but it all just felt very unnatural to me. Caylene is my first name. My parents combined their names together: Arlene + Cayetano = Caylene.”

How would you describe your music to your grandma?

“I would say it’s “feeling” music. Music that’s just feeling. I want people to turn up to it but to also dissect it and dig deeper into the meanings! I also think it’s good cooking music!”

Tell us about a few tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

“I just released my debut single, ‘No Strings Attached.’

I write it from the perspective of wanting to be with someone but them not feeling the same way back. It’s a sad song. I would say it’s an anti-fuck-boy song! I’ve been in that situation before and I feel like a lot of people have been there too. I just think it’s an easy song to relate to!

I’ve got a few more singles that I’ve been working at and I’m trying to roll them out by the end of the year! Not all of them are sad hahaha”

What do you love about your hometown?

“I live in the Cronulla area and I just love the beaches. I love being outdoors and we have gorgeous beaches. It’s a really chill environment”

Career highlight so far?

“Well, I haven’t had one yet! I’ve still got to wait and see! Can I say this interview? Probably just the feedback I’ve gotten of ‘No Strings Attached.”

Fav non-music hobby?

“I love acting, dancing, YouTube videos/vlogging, watching mukbangs”

What’s on your dream rider?

“Hmm… movie popcorn AND Joker.”

Dream music collab?

“Ugh there’s so many. I’d love to collaborate with someone like Drake. Our vibe would match heaps I think. Who else? People I love I guess? Shawn Mendes would be sick. Doja Cat, I love her! Anyone who’s music I have a respect for!”

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“10 Years? I’ll be 30… I’ll have a family. A solid career in music. I’ll be surrounded by dogs. I’ll most definitely be living overseas and I’ll probably be playing a superhero in a Marvel movie haha”

What’s your go-to Karaoke song?

“When I was younger it was: ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion. Nowadays it’s either ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin or ‘A$$ Remix’ by Big Sean and Nicki Minaj… there’s really no in-between!”
