We caught up with rising star producer Godlands to find out more about her music and just what makes her tick.

Godlands, otherwise known as Annabel Hartlett, doesn’t know how to do things quietly. Her heavy-hitting production skills have saw her be sought out for Australia’s biggest and best festivals like Alison Wonderland’s Scarehouse Warehouse Project and Party In The Paddock.

Her new single, ‘My Weakness’, came out today, May 7th, and features help from Brux. It’s stirring and atmospheric, packing a punch both sonically and emotionally. She never does things by half measures and it pays off here.

Godlands also announced on Instagram that her new EP, Thank You 4 Raging, will be ready on June 4th. We recently caught up with the DJ and producer to as part of our popular Get To Know series to find out more about her!

I originally wanted badlands but there were so many things connected to badlands and I knew it would be a nightmare to get social handles approved across the board so i went with godlands because it had that same feel to it weirdly?
How would you describe your music to your grandma?
I make the music you complain about.
Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?
Out my face was named out my face because of the vocal sample i used. I really stripped down my production process with this track, i wanted it to be more accessible and light but still had elements of trap and bass.
What do you love about your hometown?
I love that it’s not fast paced like other major cities in Australia. My family is here, the wineries are beautiful and our traffic isn’t too bad which is always nice. I think it’s super underrated, I’ll always love my hometown.
Career highlight so far?
Going on tour with Steve Aoki (even though it was cut short because of Covid) It really gave me an insight to how a major dj/producer tours. The blood sweat and tears that goes into every show, not just from Steve but the whole production crew is super inspirational and definitely a level i aspire to get to in my career.
Fave non-music hobby?
Does spending 8 hours on tiktok count as a hobby? If so, I’m really good at it.
What’s on your dream rider?
It may be gross but I love kraft macaroni and cheese. So that would be incredible to have that ready and made.

Dream music collaboration?
RL Grime would be amazing. I’d also love to work with doja cat, travis scott and slowthai. I gal can dream haha.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’m sure I’ll be somewhere around the world, maybe Japan. Still making music, still eating mac and cheese.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Sunday Morning – Maroon 5…. yes i’m that girl at the karaoke bar.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I can’t think of anyone giving me advice but i will say persistence is key. If you put in the hours you will become better, your music will progress, your performance will improve. Persistence. Persistence. Persistence. Don’t give up.
What’s one obsession you have that no one would guess after listening to your music?
I’m secretly obsessed with pinterest. I PIN. I like to pin things i’m absolutely not able to afford, but it’s nice to look at and dream about. DIY projects/ life hacks are always a go to knowing deep down that i will literally never do any of them.
