Get to know Little Quirks, the Central Coast family folk trio composed of two sisters and a cousin who are taking the world by storm with their delightful brand of nu-folk and indie-pop.

Fresh off the release of their debut EP Cover My Eyes, the family band Little Quirks will begin their tour run to celebrate on the 8th of February at the Love Lanes festival in Wyong, not too far from the group’s hometown. That means that tonight, the show goes on the road.

From there, the band will perform a mix of headlining shows and festival dates, wrapping up in Scotts Head on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. We caught up with the trio to discuss Pink Lemonade, ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and their brand new EP, as a part of our long-running Get to Know series.

Get to Know: Little Quirks

How did your artist name come about?

‘Little Quirks’ was actually named by our parents! We came out with many terrible names (like the golden nuggets…) so our parents thankfully stepped in. We have always been very quirky kids and have our own little ways we do things so they thought it was a very fitting name.

How would you describe your music to your grandma?

I would say that it’s folky, raw music that makes you feel something. I think it’s full of energy and I would hope that it makes people happy.

Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

‘Cover My Eyes’ is the title track of our new EP and I wrote this about blindly jumping into something without thinking about it and just going for it. In our film clip, we were actually blindfolded for almost the entire time!

‘Life Wouldn’t Be’ was our first single off the new ep which was written by Jaymi. This is about dealing with a big change in your life which may be a struggle for yourself or others to come to terms with. And knowing things wouldn’t be the same after.

‘Devils Ivy’ is our brand new single! And I got the name of this from plant shopping and seeing the name ‘Devils Ivy’ and thought that could be a cool title. I wrote it about this man who was very eccentric, wild and quite alluring but was known as being no good.  (And yes I bought the plant after!)

What do you love about your hometown?

Definitely the relaxed and laid back vibes!

Career highlight so far?

There have been many highlights so far it is extremely hard to choose but I’d have to pick the opportunity to play Nannup Festival WA to thousands of people! We were so excited and the audience was full of energy and dancing! Definitely a favourite of mine.

Fave non-music hobby?

Our hobbies are all very different outside of music. Mia (drummer) plays netball and lovessss her movies. Her personal favourites are Divergent and Hunger Games (catching fire to be specific)!

Jaymi (mandolin) loves to draw and create things in her spare time. She’s awesome at it!

And I (Abbey/guitarist) love to garden and grow vegetables and sunflowers (yes… I sound a bit like an old lady) We also LOVE dancing together!

What’s on your dream rider?

Hmmm, our go-to is Pink Lemonade and access to a petting zoo!

Dream music collaboration?

Mumford and Sons, The Lumineers and First Aid Kit would definitely be incredible. Or the Beatles.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

We definitely like to aim big! Touring the world, writing songs and playing huge festivals would be the dream in 10 years. And I hope I have a pet turtle by then.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

We certainly do love our karaoke! Mia’s pick is ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, my go-to is ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen and Jaymi’s seems to be the ‘Yoda stick song’ (I didn’t ask her… she just sings this a lot).
