Danzig Sings Elvis will be out on April 17. Glenn Danzig has been teasing the project since 2015 when he premiered a version of the King’s ‘Always On My Mind’ on Sirius XM.

The band released the album Skeletons in November of that year, which consisted of covers of ZZ Top, Aerosmith, The Troggs, The Everly Brothers, Black Sabbath as well as Elvis’ ‘Let Yourself Go’.

Danzig explained the origins of Danzig Sings Elvis in a 2015 Vanyaland interview. “I was working on the next Danzig album and we had some downtime so we recorded it.” He also mentioned the album should be coming out in 2016. Its imminent arrival was indeed announced in 2016, but the band’s next album turned out to be the 2017 originals set Black Laden Crown.

So, finally confirmation has arrived. The retro cover art indicates the record will include ‘Is It So Strange’, ‘Loving Arms’ and ‘One Night’. This shows Danzig won’t be focusing on any one era of Elvis’ career. ‘Is It So Strange’ and ‘One Night’ appeared on the soundtrack to the 1957 film Loving You while ‘Loving Arms’ comes from Elvis’ 1974 album Good Times.

Danzig spoke about the record on the Full Metal Jackie podcast in November 2018, reiterating what he told Vanyaland. “Every time I have downtime, or if I was working on soundtrack stuff, I would just record another Elvis track or two. So what started out as an EP, I now have more than enough for a full album.”

Danzig’s directorial debut Verotika is coming out on Blu-ray on March 3. It’s based on characters from Danzig’s adult-oriented comic book company Verotik. Danzig wrote and directed the film and composed the score.

The trailer contains a lot of throat slitting, bloody deaths, masked figures and busty outfits. The music is signature Danzig – crusty distorted guitar, graveyard blues riffs.

Danzig reunited with the original Misfits lineup in 2016. The lineup – which includes Slayer’s Dave Lombardo on drums – continues to tour.
