Green Day are already one of the world’s most acclaimed pop-punk bands, but now, they’re set to become published authors as well.
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of musicians try their hand at the written word. Why, we’ve seen Jack White, Pete Townshend, Tom DeLonge, and even Peking Duk write their own books, and now, Green Day are set to join them.
As Rolling Stone reports, Green Day are set to release Last Of The American Girls this October.
A graphic novel, the members of Green Day have all collectively co-authored the release, which has been illustrated by cartoonist Frank Caruso (who has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, and others).
Named after the group’s 2009 song, Last Of The American Girls seeks to serve as an empowering statement for their fans, becoming “an inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious—every woman who refuses to capitulate.”
According to a description of the book, the upcoming releases plans to celebrate “true rebel girls—girls who push back, girls who use their voice, girls who say no.”
“Last Of The American Girls takes on both the establishment and the upwardly mobile, espousing an infectious spirit that has never been more relevant.”
In related news, it was recently revealed that Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is one of the many artists who have been chosen to collaborate on Morrissey’s new cover album, California Son.
Released next month, Armstrong is set to perform on a cover of The Fifth Dimension’s ‘Wedding Bell Blues’ alongside Lydia Night.
While this isn’t the new Green Day album that we’ve been hoping for, Armstrong did reveal back in December that he’s been writing new songs for his iconic band. As it stands, it’s nearing three years since the band released their latest album, Revolution Radio in October of 2016.
Green Day’s Last Of The American Girls is set to be released on October 29th.
