Let’s say you’re walking down one of Melbourne’s seedier districts and a dishevelled man wearing dirty clothes, sunglasses, a baseball cap, and what appears to be a fake beard offers you a peep show featuring your favourite musician performing – what do you do?

If you’re one of the dozens of Melbourne natives approaches by comedian and radio personality Hamish Blake over the weekend, you get the hell away and miss out on an opportunity to see an intimate though admittedly short performance from superstar Ed Sheeran.

“I think one of the big problems is that people think Ed Sheeran is a code word for a new drug,” Blake told partner Andy Lee during their recent skit, which saw them recruiting Sheeran to perform inside of a peep booth on King Street.

“Do you want a peep at Ed Sheeran for two bucks?” Blake can be seen asking anxious passersby in the skit, which you can check out below. The whole thing sounds like a great idea on paper, but resulted in Sheeran sitting on a stool doing nothing for two hours.

Also note how quickly the first bloke whips out his phone when he realises that’s actually Ed Sheeran on the stage.
