Fresh from the release of remix EP 5G, Sydney heavy rockers Northlane have announced a new acoustic EP called 2D

That’s right, the band have produced a follow-up to 5G just three months after its premiere, proving themselves to be one of the hardest working acts in metal today.

The 5-track EP is set to feature acoustic versions of songs from their 2019 studio album Alien, including today’s release ‘Rift’.

In a statement, Northlane vocalist Marcus Bridge explained that 2D adds another dimension to Alien‘s tracks.

“Recording an acoustic EP is something that we’ve wanted to do for quite some time and felt right with the personal nature of the songs from Alien,” he said.

“I wanted to strip these songs back to the bare minimum to juxtapose the soundscapes of the album, a 2D version of sorts. A song like ‘Rift’ has a completely different energy in this context and took on new meaning with the recording in the depths of lockdown, now almost feeling like a cry of frustration and despair,” he added.

As well as consisting of tracks originally from Alien, the EP also includes a stripped-back version of ‘Sleepless’, which first appeared in the band’s 2020 documentary Negative Energy.

The band are set to celebrate the release of both 2D and 5G by selling a limited run of exclusive 12-inch coloured LPs, which are available for pre-order via UNFD’s website.

The full 2D EP will debut on Friday, May 21st.

Meanwhile, the ARIA-award winners are set to headline Full Tilt festival in June alongside the likes of Hearts Wake, Hands Like Houses, Thy Art Is Murder and Luca Brasi.
