Hilary Duff has responded to a “disgusting” rumour that surfaced on the internet this weekend. The rumour was allegedly first circulated by far-right conspiracy theorist group, QAnon, who apparently believe that Hilary Duff is involved with child sex trafficking.

In a since-deleted thread, a group of Twitter users pointed to a photo of Duff’s nude child on an Instagram story from 2017 as evidence that the pop-star and actress is involved with child sex trafficking. The rumour also appeared on YouTube in a video posted by conspiracy theory channel, Q News Corner.

As a result of the allegations, Duff’s name was trending on Twitter overnight. She responded to the allegations this morning, calling them “garbage”.

“Everyone bored af right now I know…but this is actually disgusting,” the Lizzie McGuire star wrote on Twitter.

“Whoever dreamed this one up and put this garbage into the universe should take a break from their damn phone. Maybe get a hobby,” she said.

Fans rushed to show support for Duff on Twitter. At the time of writing, Duff’s post dispelling the rumours had garnered more than 120,000 likes.

“Every single mom has picture of their kid naked…it’s not a problem until YOU make it one,” wrote one fan.

For years Duff, has juggled her singing and acting career with her life as a mother of two children. Last month, she partnered with American department store, Kohls, as part of their Everyday Amazing Moms campaign. The campaign allowed fans to celebrate their mothers for a chance to win prizes.

Hilary Duff has most recently been seen on-screen in the television series, Younger. Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Duff would appear in a Younger spin-off series in the future. The website claimed that the series is “in the works”.
