Ivey are a Gold Coast five-piece that have us falling head over heels with their delectable indie-pop musings. The band just dropped their latest single ‘Midnight’ — a storm of dark pop brilliance.

We were so excited about the track that we felt propelled to further immerse ourselves in the magical world of Ivey — so we sent the band through a few Get to Know questions to celebrate.

The band will also be cracking off two live-streamed performances this month, so if find yourself desperate for more, you can catch them below via Woolly Mammoth’s Facebook, as well as The Foundry.

How did your artist name come about?

We called ourselves the Fourth when Millie joined the band as the fourth member back in 2013. We then realised that was a shit name so changed it to The IV (Roman numerals for four), then over time it eventually became Ivey with the ”e”. Don’t ask us why we added an “e”, no idea!!!!! But it stuck.

How would you describe your music to your grandma?

What the young kids listen to, bit of doof doof, bit of ’80s pop.

Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

‘Bodies’ is about Polyamory and bisexuality, just being curious about sex really. ‘Scream’ deals with themes of anxiety and depression and trying to combat it in your own way. And ‘Valentine’ tackles heartbreak and toxic qualities

What do you love about your hometown?

Its environment, the beach and the mountains are so close to each other, it’s very open and beautiful.
