Ja Rule has been an easy target for online trolls ever since his involvement with the Fyre Festival catastrophe. It seems a small price to pay given the festival’s co-founder Billy McFarland is currently serving a six year fraud sentence.

But Jah has tried to take the criticism in his stride over the past few years. After wiggling his way out any legal or financial culpability, last December he dropped the song ’Fyre’. Its lyrics depict the Queens MC as a victim of McFarland’s scamming, just like the punters who were so horribly disappointed by the sham festival.

“How about a show of hands if you got your money back/I’m just playing, I got sued for that,” raps Ja Rule. “100 mil to be exact/I know you lack empathy for the one that’s me/But I too was bamboozled.”

A brief bit of background: Fyre Festival was scheduled to take place in April-May 2017 on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma. Endorsements from the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid helped spread the word. Blink 182 were due to headline, but wisely pulled out before it was due to start.

“We’re not confident that we would have what we need to give you the quality of performances we always give our fans,” wrote the band. And they were right. Come event day, everything went wrong – from problems with security, catering and accommodation to a complete shemozzle of a festival site.

The Fyre facilities left a little to be desired

Fast forward to February 2020 and Ja Rule says he’s had it with everything he does being linked to the Fyre palaver. He responded to some gag-makers on Twitter this week, and he does not sound happy.

Jah started by saying, “Let me let all you fucking clowns know something it’s all cool wit the Fyre jokes but there ain’t no fucking sucker over here… BE CLEAR!!!” His next tweet was even more explicit: “Watch your mouth before you get parked punk… keep playing with me I’m a get to slapping earth wind and FYRE out you clowns!!!”
