Jaden Smith has reportedly been tapped to portray a young Kanye West in the new Showtime anthology series, Omniverse.

Born to music and film icon Will Smith, Jaden Smith has worn many hats in his career. From his own music career (which currently has him supporting Post Malone in Australia) to serving as a Woolworths employee, Smith has also dabbled in the world of acting from time to time.

After acclaimed roles in The Pursuit Of Happyness and The Karate Kid, Smith returned to acting as the character of Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling in Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down.

However, it seems as though music-based roles like the latter have set him up for his next acting challenge; portraying the ever-divisive Kanye West.

As Variety reports, American TV network Showtime has ordered a script for Omniverse, a half-hour anthology series which will be “examining the many doors of perception.”

Executive produced by Kanye West and Scooter Braun, the first season of the series is set to explore the concept of the Ego through an alternate reality version of Kanye West.

Explaining the concept a little more, writer Lee Sung Jin (who also serves as an Executive Producer) shared a statement expressing his excitement at working on such an intriguing project.

“I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West,” Lee writes.

Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half hour narrative.”

While there’s no word yet as to when this new series will eventually air, it’s already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing concepts on this year’s television landscape.

In related news, Jaden Smith is currently in the middle of an Australian tour with Post Malone. Wrapping things up in Melbourne tonight, the tour is set to head along to Brisbane and Sydney over the next week. Check out the details below.
