Some genius has crafted the greatest mashup of 2021 so far by mixing Metallica’s James Hetfield singing ‘Enter Sandman’ with Huey Lewis’ ‘Hip To Be Square’.
Aside from experiencing wild success in the 80s and 90s, Metallica and Huey Lewis couldn’t be any more different when it comes to musical style. But it seems like we all underestimated how well both complement each other because a new mashup shows that we’ve all been sleeping on how great a hypothetical Metallica/Huey Lewis collab would be.
Bill McClintock, the genius YouTuber who found internet fame for his brilliant mashups such as ‘Billie Cocaine’ by Michael Jackson/Eric Clapton and ‘Get Ready For The Grave’ by The Temptations/Black Sabbath, has released his latest masterpiece: ‘Hip To Be The Sandman’.
Combining James Hetfield’s aggressive vocals from Metallica’s iconic single ‘Enter Sandman‘ with the catchy beat of Huey Lewis And The News’ smash hit ‘Hip To Be Square, this contrasting mix works unexpectedly well.
Throw in the guitar solos from Megadeth’s ‘Peace Sells’ and Judas Priest’s, and the end result is a surprisingly catchy banger that’s as goofy as it is brilliant. Some might call it musical heresy but I call it one of the best things you’ll hear in 2021 (so far).
To the surprise of no one, making these great mashups isn’t easy and “trying to find two compatible songs takes a really long time” according to McClintock (as per Mouthing Off Magazine).
“I’ve done eighty or so mashups. You would think that the more you do, the easier it gets,” says McClintock. “However, I think that it has gotten more difficult – my standards are higher.”

“But it’s like you’re going fishing. You sit there all day, day after day you get nothing. But then once you’ve found that match, and they sound so good together, it makes it worth it, to the point where I want to keep doing it.”
When this pandemic is all over, is it too much to ask for Metallica and Huey Lewis to actually collaborate on something?
