A little over a month ago, it emerged that Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme was set to read a bedtime story to British children. While it almost sounds like the makings of a musical joke on paper, Josh Homme did indeed appear on UK TV last night, using his brilliantly smooth voice to read kids to sleep.

Back in August, Josh Homme let slip in an interview with The Sun that he had been chosen to appear on UK television, reading a bedtime story to British kids. “I’m going to be reading the bedtime story on CBeebies,” said Homme of his short visit to England a few months back. “I’m not doing many interviews this time but I will make time for that to happen.”

With three kids of his own with Australian wife Brody Dalle of The Distillers and Spinnerette, it seemed only fitting that Josh Homme might have softened up as his family grew. Last month though, it was confirmed that the rocker was set to appear on the BBC’s CBeebies network to read the story Zog, by Julia Donaldson, about an accident-prone dragon.

Overnight, Josh Homme’s segment aired, and it was just as you would have expected it to be.

Opening with the imposing rocker playing with a stuffed animal, he quickly addresses viewers with a smile. “Hey, I’m Joshua,” he begins. “Do you like dragons? I love dragons, especially good dragons, and tonight’s bedtime story is all about a heroic and good dragon that is learning to be the best that he can be.”

According to NME, this story is the first of several that Josh Homme recorded for CBeebies when he was in the country recently, so this isn’t the last you’ll see of Homme’s softer side.

It also emerged this week that Homme’s trip to England resulted in the recording of a stripped-back version of the Villains cut ‘Villain Of Circumstance’, with Homme and bandmate Dean Fertita recording a unique version of the track with a string section for Later… With Jools Holland.
