Kelly Clarkson sunk her teeth into a banging cover of the Heart classic ‘Barracuda’ in another edition of Kellyoke.
On Thursday, February 4th, Clarkson crushed her version of the hit song on The Kelly Clarkson Show, as per Billboard. Looking like your mum’s mate who rocks up t0 the karaoke stage and blows everyone away with just how good she is, Clarkson really bellowed ‘Barracuda’ to the audience.
Red lights flashed around the studio as the talk show became a rock show for a couple of minutes. Now that’s a multi-talented talk show host; Ellen could never.
The response on social media was instant with praise. Jackie Foster, formerly a member of Clarkson’s Team Kelly during season 14 of The Voice, wrote on Twitter, “YESSS KELLY! This is the one song I wanted to sing on The Voice. You sound unreal :)”
‘Barracuda’ may have only reached number 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1977 but it’s grown stature since. VHS1 ranked it as the 34th greatest hard rock song of all time. For anyone of a certain vintage, it was also a playable track in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.
On the other hand, it was used at the 2008 Republican National Convention because John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, was allegedly known as ‘Sarah Barracuda’ in high school (and a few other choice names, we’re sure).
The band’s Wilson sisters disapproved of the use though, and issued a cease-and-desist letter to McCain’s campaign.

Clarkson – the undisputed greatest American Idol winner – has been fancying herself as a smilier, lighter version of Miley Cyrus recently, taking on huge alternative rock hits. As part of Kellyoke, she’s already performed ‘Runaway Train’ by Soul Asylum and ‘Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning) by Vertical Horizon. Those tracks surely woke up her sleepy daytime TV audience.
