Kevin Parker of Tame Impala fame made the Freo Dockers a hype track, and of course it slaps harder than an afternoon at the AFL.

It was not too much of a surprise that the most famous psychedelic rock singer to come out of Perth right now has just been announced as the Fremantle Docker’s number one ticket holder.

“Hi, I’m Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, and I am thrilled to be the number one ticket holder for the Fremantle Dockers…I’ve been a Dockers supporter for as long as I can remember…Some of my favourite gigs have been in Fremantle,” he said in the video.

He joins the ranks of other number one ticket holders such as soccer star Sam Kerr (West Coast Eagles) and Lleyton hewett (Adelaide Football Club).

In other words, it’s great that a muso likes sport as well.

But let’s not forget that this combination isn’t anything new. Melbourne SKA band The Cat Empire wrote the ‘Big Big Sound’ anthem for the Greater Western Sydney Giants and it spawned some entertaining memes.

Midfielder and forward Nat Fyfe from the Fremantle side was chuffed to meet Parker after the game, hugging and telling him that “Your song got us going!” “That’s what they’re saying around town, bro,” Parker responds, and for good reason.

It sounds like a sporting stadium  war cry, complete with the vintage, muffled Tame Impala drum sound, rubbery bass tones and the guitar reverb is placed before the compressor.

“Freo, Freo,” the crowd vocals chant rigorously, as it leads into “I wanna be all in!//You’ll have to count in, me-o//Let’s go, let’s go.” The footage of the video shows Fremantle dominating recent rivals the Sydney Swans, who have met in the finals together regularly in recent years.

Parker continues to immerse himself into the iconic Australian fabric that is the sporting event, but he also broke new ground with the Wiggles covering ‘Elephant’ on triple j’s Like a Version.

We look forward to more iconic chants, sports related or otherwise, from this man.
