Prolific Victorian rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are finally reissuing their earliest releases on vinyl.
Back when King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard first began releasing music at the start of this decade, few could have envisioned just how voracious their fans would become.
In fact, the group’s popularity has grown so much over the last decade that if you’re keen on finding an original copy of their Willoughby’s Beach EP from 2011, you might have to throw down over $1,000.
Of course, dedicated fans have been hellbent on tracking down these original releases, and paying through the nose for them in the process.
In fact, to stop such an activity, King Gizz didn’t even release an official version of their Polygondwanaland album, instead, they chose to release it digitally, allowing fans to make their own copies. Ironically, this had lead to over 200 different variations of the record being listed on the website Discogs.
Now, it seems that the days of paying excessive amounts to get your hands on a vinyl copy of the group’s early records are over, with Flightless Records announcing a series of reissues earlier today.
After first teasing reissues earlier this week, Flightless Records’ Eric Moore (who pulls double duty as the band’s percussionist as well) announced the good news today, revealing that the first four records by King Gizz will be reissued on vinyl, along with their Willoughby’s Beach EP.
“We are extremely excited to announce that the first 5 titles from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s incredible back catalogue will be reissued on 12” vinyl for the first time this year,” wrote Flightless Records on Instagram. Of course, if that isn’t enough, they also confirmed that the reissues will include “re-imagined artwork, packaging, liner notes and wax colours.”
Special editions of the records will be up for pre-order from Friday, September 14th, with each release limited to just 5,000 copies worldwide.
Of course, if you’re not in the mood for anything fancy and just want some King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on your turntable with no bells and whistles, standard vinyl editions will hit the racks on November 2nd.
Whether you’re a collector or just a casual fan, it goes without saying that there are bound to be some pretty happy record collections in the next few months.
