The long-awaited Korn covers album could be getting closer to seeing an official release, with the band revealing they’re still adding more tracks to it as time goes on.

Back in 2004, news began to emerge about a cover album being released by nu-metal icons Korn. Originally slated for a 2005 release, the project – aptly titled Korn Kovers – has been stuck in some sort of development hell for years, with the band continuously working on it, and slowly dropping more info as the years progress.

While songs from Nine Inch Nails, Black Sabbath, Prince, Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne, and Mötley Crüe are reportedly set to feature, so are guest appearances from the likes of Xzibit and the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.

However, apart from confirming this new record won’t be released in stores and that the band are still working on it, information has been rather scarce. Now, the band have offered up latest update in this ongoing saga.

As Loudwire reports, Korn recently appeared at Q&A at Live Nation’s Los Angeles location. As you could expect, conversation soon turned to these long-awaited covers, with fans wondering when we receive renditions of more classic tracks from the group.

As it turned out, Korn are in fact still recording covers, with the recording sessions for their upcoming album even resulting in a few musical tributes.

“There’s a handful of cover songs that nobody’s ever heard before,” guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer explained, with vocalist Jonathan Davis admitting that “we’ve been talking about the cover album forever.”

“But it’s making its way because each year we kind of add to the pile of it,” Munky continued. “We recorded a couple of more for this [album session] and put it aside, and no I’m not telling you what they are.”

While Korn have indeed released a few covers in the past (notably, versions of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ and Cameo’s ‘Word Up!’), fans are obviously anxious to receive this full-length collection of tracks.

In related news, Korn are gearing up to release their 13th studio album this year, with The Nothing scheduled to be released on September 13th.
