Just a week after noting their long-awaited Korn Kovers album was still being worked one, the group’s bassist has noted that he hopes to see it released one day.

Back in 2004, news began to emerge about a cover album being released by nu-metal icons Korn. Originally slated for a 2005 release, the project – aptly titled Korn Kovers – has been stuck in some sort of development hell for years, with the band continuously working on it, and slowly dropping more info as the years progress.

While songs from Nine Inch Nails, Black Sabbath, Prince, Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne, and Mötley Crüe are reportedly set to feature, so are guest appearances from the likes of Xzibit and the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.

After so many years, and such little info, fans could easily be forgiven for thinking this project may in fact never eventuate. However, after the band revealed last week that they are indeed working on it still, the band’s bassist has echoed our hopes that it will see the light of day somewhere down the line.

Speaking to The Art And Span Show (via Blabbermouth), Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu revealed that while their upcoming album The Nothing almost featured a couple of cover songs, the tracks will one day be released – likely on a full-length record.

“Over the years, we’ve been dabbling with covers, and we do have a handful of covers that we haven’t released,” Fieldy explained. “We’re still trying to get ’em right.

“People think it’s, like, ‘Oh, you can just cover this song and then it’ll blow up.’ And it’s, like, it’s not as easy as you think. If that was the case, we’d just go, ‘Oh, what was the number one biggest song? Let’s just cover that. We’re gonna blow up.’ That’s just not the blueprint.”

Noting that the band recorded a cover of “one of the oddest bands” during the sessions for their new record, Fieldy explained that Korn already have their sights set on a much-larger project, including finally releasing that full album of musical tributes.

“So pretty soon, as soon as we get all these, obviously, we’re gonna go back, and once you do that, just fine-tuning will be quick,” he continued.

“And next thing you know, maybe we’ll release… who knows? We always talked about we wanna do Korn Kovers, with a ‘K,’ and release a whole covers album instead of just throwing a cover tune on a Korn album.

“I like the idea of being able to buy a CD with just Korn covers, so it’s not like you’re trying to make your band blow up off of a cover.

“But you never know how that works, ’cause we did do [Pink Floyd’s] ‘[Another] Brick In The Wall’, and that song turned out amazing. But we don’t play it that much. I wish we would, because there’s nothing but good feedback, from what I hear.”

Although there’s no official word as to when we will indeed hear the full album of Korn Kovers, we can sit tight knowing that the band definitely haven’t forgotten about it, and that we will one day be able to see the nu-metal icons paying tribute to their idols on a full-length release.
