US rapper Lil Uzi Vert is currently facing a rather hefty lawsuit, with promoters seeking US $600k over a cancelled performance last year.
Over the last few years, 24-year-old Lil Uzi Vert has managed to carve out a rather respected hip-hop career, releasing one album and a handful of mixtapes since 2010.
However, just last month the rapper explained that he was “done with music”, explaining via Instagram that his record label was halting the release of new music.
“I’ve been tryna drop something new. Bro, this is my life now,” he explained. “All I can do is make music and sit back and wait for y’all response and make visions to this shit.”
“You think I don’t wanna drop music? You just gotta understand when people don’t love you, they’ll hold your life if you sign a motherfuckin’ … Hold that shit against you.”
“And that go for the streets too. You ain’t supposed to sign no motherfucking paper in the streets because that’s rattin’. So why the fuck I even sign this shit as a deal. Motherfucking set myself up.”
While Lil Uzi Vert claimed he was going to delete all of his old music and retire from music, the fact that he is yet to do this ahead of his upcoming album has led some to believe this was all a clever marketing ploy.
However, if he was planning to leave the music industry, he’s just been dragged back in, with the rapper facing a US $600k lawsuit over a cancelled show.
Check out Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘New Patek’:
As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, a lawsuit has been filed in an Atlanta court over Lil Uzi Vert’s failure to show up at his October 20th performance in Tuscon, Arizona.
According to the lawsuit, the rapper cost promoters US $600k by not performing at the concert, for which he signed an agreement to appear at back in August of 2018.
A day before the concert was set to take place, the venue revealed that the show had been postponed, but no new dates were ever announced, leaving promoters in the dark.
The lawsuit claims that Lil Uzi Vert “failed or refused to schedule another concert date or reimburse (the promoters) for its expenses.”
While the rapper is yet to comment publicly on the lawsuit, this isn’t the first legal battle he has faced in recent times.
Back in August, Lil Uzi Vert revealed the artwork from his presumably-still-forthcoming album Eternal Atake. However, the infamous Heaven’s Gate cult soon chimed in, explaining that the rapper had ripped off their iconic logo in the process.
Although the future of Lil Uzi Vert’s career is up for debate at the current time, this lawsuit seems to look set to keep music on his mind for the near future.
