The Lil Uzi Vert saga has continued, with the rapper’s record label stating he is free to release his new album whenever he wants to.
Earlier this year, US rapper Lil Uzi Vert undoubtedly devastated some of his fans by revealing that he was “done with music.”
In a brief message offered up on Instagram, Lil Uzi Vert noted he was completely abandoning the world of music. “I deleted everything,” he wrote. “I wanna be normal… I wanna wake up in 2013.”
Just a day later though, the rapper explained that he had been attempting to release his album (which has been teased since July), though he explained that his record label, Generation Now, had been halting any musical progress that he wished to make.
“I’m tryna drop something,” he explained. “I’ve been tryna drop something new.”
“Bro, this is my life now. All I can do is make music and sit back and wait for y’all response and make visions to this shit.”
“You think I don’t wanna drop music?” he continued. “You just gotta understand when people don’t love you, they’ll hold your life if you sign a motherfuckin’ … Hold that shit against you.”
Now, the artist’s record label has seemingly changed its tune, stating that Lil Uzi Vert can drop whatever he wishes to.
As Complex notes, DJ Akademiks recently shared an Instagram post that referenced the delayed release of Lil Uzi Vert’s new album.
Surprisingly, this attracted the attention of DJ Drama, the co-founder of Vert’s Generation Now label, who claimed that he and Don Cannon are fine with the album coming out at any time.
“Uzi should put [Eternal Atake] out tomorrow or any day he wants,” wrote DJ Drama. “He has me & Cannon’s total support and blessings to drop it.”
At this stage though, there are still some fans out there wondering if Lil Uzi Vert’s comments from January are legitimate, or part of some lengthy publicity campaign to drum up support for the new record.
In related news, Lil Uzi Vert was recently named in a lawsuit which sees promoters seeking over half a million dollars in damages from a cancelled show last year.
According to the lawsuit, the rapper cost promoters US $600k by not performing at the concert, for which he signed an agreement to appear at back in August of 2018.
A day before the concert was set to take place, the venue revealed that the show had been postponed, but no new dates were ever announced, leaving promoters in the dark.
The lawsuit claims that Lil Uzi Vert “failed or refused to schedule another concert date or reimburse (the promoters) for its expenses.”
At this stage, the rapper has not commented publicly on the lawsuit or his upcoming album.
