If you haven’t noticed, it’s been a ridiculously long time between drinks for Modest Mouse. In fact, as A Journal of Musical Things notes, when We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, the band’s acclaimed last release, hit sale, Apple had yet to release its first iPhone.

Seven years later and the band are now gearing up to release their highly anticipated sixth album, to be titled Strangers To Ourselves, this March. As if there wasn’t enough reason to be excited already, the band have done fans one better and accompanied the announcement with a new track.

Modest Mouse’s first single in seven years, ‘Lampshades On Fire’, recalls the most frenetic and dynamic moments of the band’s landmark 2000 album, The Moon & Antarctica. Built on a galloping pace, the track’s intricate layers, classic staccato vocals, and jangly guitar work are quintessential Modest Mouse.
