Hip hop luminary Ludacris has truly taken one for the 21 century team with the launch of his new word game, Slang N’ Friendz.
It’s similar to word game Scrabble, only you can play using the game’s dictionary of over 10,000 slang words from many cultures around the world, as well as the traditional 8-letter wins like ‘quizzify’ which get you 419 points and the title of nerd from your siblings.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges said: “I am in the hip hop world. We have created words that ended up in the dictionary because they were slang.
“Pop culture dictates the rest of the culture. I felt it was necessary that our own culture be added to the dictionary, like an urban dictionary. We want to fill a void in the world.”
Slang N’ Friendz has been four years in the making. Ludacris teamed up with Edwin Benton, who developed the game under his tech company C.A.T Apps.
“Edwin is the mastermind behind the ideas here,” Ludacris said. “He got it to the point where I saw I would love to partner with him. It fits my lifestyle and I saw I could help promote it. I added my ideas and input and it was a perfect partnership. Edwin brought it to the table.”
The game has curse words, vulgar terms and awards users badges to help them compete on a per-city leaderboard. If you play the most slang words in your city, you’ll be at the top of the leaderboard. It also includes definitions, allows users to add new words, and has its own in-game currency, which you can purchase with real cash.
The best part? The game is free and it lets us earn points from playing words like ‘lit’.
“Slang N’ Friendz encourages users to connect, be friendly and identify what they have in common through language,” said Ludacris. “It’s also a chance for different generations to learn about each other’s unique forms of communication and find ways to use language to bridge generation gaps.”
Slang N’ Friendz is available for download on iOS and Android.
