Maggie Rogers has just made her way through a painfully awkward interview on The Project, where attention seemed to be mainly focused on her professional relationship with Pharrell Williams.
Back in 2016, the world was turned on to the music of American musician Maggie Rogers, thanks in part to the success of her debut single, ‘Alaska’.
While the track was always set to be a hit, it gained worldwide fame after Pharrell Williams heard the song at Rogers’ university, and his positive reaction helped turn it into a viral hit.
Since then, Rogers has carved out an impressive career, with her debut record finally being released earlier this year. However, it seems that journalists can’t get past her connection to the iconic producer.

With Maggie Rogers in the country for her first Aussie shows in two years, the musician appeared on The Project last night, where the questions immediately turned to her time working with Pharrell Williams.
While mentioning Pharrell is undoubtedly important for context in regards to the beginning of Rogers’ career, roughly two thirds of the questions asked to her were in regards to the famed producer before moving onto discussing Rogers’ new album.
“It’s a really interesting thing, because almost every day for the last three years, I have spoken about this moment and this person that I have absolutely no relationship with,” Rogers explained.
“It’s really funny, because people think like, you have dinner, you’re best friends, you’re in touch…”
However, the questions kept coming, clearly making Maggie Rogers feel a tad awkward, especially with host Tommy Little asked if Pharrell Williams “smelled good”, adding that “I reckon he looks like he’d smell amazing.”
“So, in that video, that’s about as close as we’ve ever gotten,” Rogers responded. “But he does have perfect skin.”
Thankfully, Waleed Aly soon turned the topic of discussion towards Rogers’ new album, much to her delight.
However, the musician took to Twitter overnight, sharing a “note to future journalists” that she has “no idea what Pharrell smells like.”
In related news, Maggie Rogers recently kicked off her Australian tour on Tuesday night, and is set to continue in Melbourne tonight, before wrapping up in Brisbane next week. Check out all the details below
